Engineers also reinforced the block, added forged pistons, heavy-duty head gaskets, a bespoke single plane intake, turbo-specific exhaust manifolds, and a high-pressure oil pump. It force-fed air through a modified Rochester Quadrajet four-barrel carburetor and was controlled by an electronic unit borrowed from Buick’s turbocharged 231-ci (3.8-liter) V6. The engine received a 9-psi (0.62 bar) Garrett TBO-305 turbo. With no funds or time to develop a completely new powerplant, they decided to give the lazy 301 the forced induction treatment, allegedly inspired by a student’s garage project. The now-defunct GM division needed a miracle to keep selling their aging performance model. Features include air conditioning, power steering and brakes. One of the cleaner survivor engines I've seen. All of the air cleaner duct work is still attached, the smog equipment is still hooked up. I just stuck my hand under the driver's seat, the build sheet is still there.ĮNGINE COMPARTMENT: It has the 4.9L V8 turbo charged motor. It also has cruise control, power windows, tilt and rear defog. It's a digital cassette stereo with an audio boost switch. All the bits and pices- plastic trim, glove box, heater controls are all excellent. I love the leather wrapped formula wheel, it's like new. Pristine machine turned instrument panel has a full set of gauges that are back lit red, unique to the pace car. Actually the cigarette lighter and ashtray have not been used. There's no cracks, no holes, no cigarette burns. The light gray carpet is excellent, it also has some newer Turbo floor mats. INTERIOR: Inside the car is all original and it looks practically brand new. It has 15x8 white turbo wheels with it's original Goodyear Polysteel tires. The original weatherstrips are still soft. The glass is excellent including the mirrored t-tops. The original paint and decals are excellent considering they are original. The spoilers and bumpers fit nice and have no damage. The body is in excellent condition with no dents, damage or rust. It is original from the tires to the paint. Other items included: extra keys, original dealer's emblem, pre delivery inspection, glovebox pouch filled with manuals and literature.ĮXTERIOR: Very sharp combination of colors and graphics. The original build sheet is still under the seat. It is loaded with options, it has so many that they it has a 2 page window sticker. Loaded with features.ġ4,366 actual miles, 2 owner car.
